Plymouth University selects brain tumor research as - charity official partner of
Brain Tumor Research was selected by the University of Plymouth to be an official partner charity. research of brain cancer was launched in April 09 to raise awareness and funding for scientific research in brain tumors and improve outcomes for patients with brain tumors.
A range of events and activities organized by the University will raise money for the charity, and staff and students, and other university partners, will be encouraged to donate, fundraising and volunteering. The community's participation in the broadest sense in the Southwest will also be important.
Earlier this year on research brain tumors chose Plymouth Peninsula University of Medicine and Dentistry schools to join its growing network of research centers of excellence. The Plymouth team were recognized for their international reputation for research in the unique and exciting field of low-grade brain tumors and tumors of the nervous system - many of which affect young people. Researchers at Plymouth are the fast track drug therapies to make them available to patients quickly and safely
The research team works closely with clinicians Plymouth Hospital NHS Trust which is a regional center for the treatment of brain tumors and care.
More children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumor than any other cancer, brain tumors yet receive only one percent of the national research expenditure on cancer. Currently available treatments are complex and dangerous surgery to remove the tumor and radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
