New Light Blue Cysview cystoscopy with can provide an accurate diagnosis of tumors of the bladder -

MedStar Washington Hospital Center now offers Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview®, a new technology approved FDA used to locate tumors of the bladder in patients with known or suspected bladder cancer.

"Detect Bladder Cancer in its first stage is sometimes difficult, and an inaccurate diagnosis can lead to incomplete treatment, which translates into potential cancer progression and delays in treatment," Stamatakis said Lambros, MD, director of urologic oncology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. "Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview may provide a more accurate diagnosis of bladder tumors compared to the standard technique, which can ignore some tumors that are too small to see."

In Blue Light cystoscopy, a patient receives a solution that is absorbed by the cancerous tissue. Using special equipment that emits "blue light" will be difficult to see tumors fluorescence and stand out against the tissues of normal bladder, making it easier for the doctor to identify and remove them. The new technology also allows doctors more accurately counsel patients on the extent of their disease, which can determine the next step in treatment.

"The availability of Blue Light Cystoscopy is consistent with our commitment to advancing care of patients," added Dr. Stamatakis. "Patients with a known or suspected cancer of the bladder can now undergoing this diagnostic procedure specialized in hopes of better identify disease sites and eliminate them. "
